Book 1: Images of England - Handsworth

This book, compiled by Sandra Gillott (Chair of the Handsworth Historical Society), provides a pictorial journey through Handsworth old and new. The book contains nearly 240 black and white photographs and period adverts documenting life and changes during last 150 years of Handsworth. The book is divided into chapters covering:

Book 3: Historical Handsworth Jottings

Sandra's third book, which consists of a series of forty articles from the Handsworth Church magazine. When fundraising began for the much needed renovation of the church tower, Sandra's contribution was to put some of the articles that she had written together in book form and sell it at £3 each with all the money going to the church tower fund. Book 4: 101 Things to Know About Handsworth

Sandra's fourth book. Articles include the Handsworth sea level; when churches, schools, pubs etc were built and when they were pulled down; how roads got their names; the Handsworth Wizard; the whereabouts of the village pinfold; and so on.... It is a complilation of all the questions that people have phoned Sandra about over the years. The book is published by Sandra at a price of £5.99, but, unfortunately, is now sold out.

Book 5: The Handsworth I Remember

Sandra's fifth book consists of the memoirs of Florence Margaret Earl written at the turn of the century, about her life in Handsworth to which Sandra had added the photographs. The book is published by Sandra, at a price of £6.50p plus postage. To arrange this, you can call Sandra on 0114 269 8213.
