HECNet is an electronic network which is designed to serve the community and friends of Handsworth, Sheffield, England.
HECNet was created as an experiment in 1997 on a voluntary basis under the auspices of the Handsworth Community Forum (HCF). Judging by the feedback we have received, it has proved to be a useful facility, and has invited considerable interest from people around the world who once lived in Handsworth (see the Ex-Pats page). Unfortunately, because of lack of spare time on the part of the people who maintain the Web site voluntarily, the original Web site has remained static for the past couple of years. However, now, in March 2005, we have refreshed the information on the site, given it a new look, and are using a new content management system which will enable it to be much more easily kept up-to-date.
In the time during which the old site was inactive, we continued to receive Ex-Pats feedback from people all over the world, but were unable to incorporate it. Apologies to those people who provided this feedback. But, never-fear, we have kept all the feedback information from the intervening period and have incorporated it into the new site. We'd be grateful if any ex-pats visiting the site could check their entry and e-mail details of any discrepancies to ex-pats@handsworth.org.uk.

The content management framework for the site has been developed on a voluntary basis by Sharkbyte Studios, and we are most grateful to them for this work.
Last, but not least, if you are interested in helping out with the maintenance of the site - for example by providing a regular feed of local news, by suggesting other external links, by providing additional historical information and so on... please get in touch!
