Remembers (places):
The wonderful sound of St Marys bells ringing & the sight of the church spire when I'd been out cycling, telling me I was almost home.The closure of Handsworth County School and going to Brook Secondary Modern.Singing on the bus as we all went to Woodthorpe School to learn to swim.School dinners arriving by truck in metal pans(delicious weren't they!)That awful day when the truck hit the school wall and the slab on the top fell and killed Babs Wrigglesworth and Peter Pippins little brother.Mr Bart on coming into class to tell us King George VI had passed away.Watching the Corination on our new 9" Bush B/W TV.Sleding on the field next to Dr O'Flynn's house (now the round about)Skating on the duck pond in High Hazels park and falling in.Watching the pit ponies leave Nunnery pit for the last time. The buliding of Stadbroke and Balifield estate(my aunt opened the first grocery shop on Balifield.)The bad storm blowing my brothers garage across the rec.Moore & Wrights opening (my mother worked there for Email:

I married Raymond Shaw ex Woodhouse/Intake boy in 1961 at St Mary's. We have 3 girls(twins) Lisa & Ann 36, Elaine 33 plus 4 gradchildren.Emigrated to Australia 1971. So glad I found this sight, all the wonderful memories of Handsworth,school days and missed but not forgotten friends came flooding back. If anyone remembers me I'd love to hear from you. I'd like to thank the people or person who thought of and produced this site, for us Ex-Pats it keeps us in touch with Handsworth and we do not feel so far from home.
