Olivers Mount (not strictly Handsworth)

Consulting Civil Engineer

Remembers (people):
My father (Reggie)and his family were long time Handsworthians. My Grandma Barton lived on Finchwell Road with my Aunt Hilda. My Aunt Kath & Uncle Ron(Wrigglesworth) and Aunt May and Uncle Cliff (Barton) also lived on Finchwell Rd. My father was one of 8. My father passed away in 1992 at age 82 & my Mom just died this year at age 90. My Mom loved the family tree stuff and I have sheets of information regarding the Barton Family in Handsworth, going back to a relative of my father's that was the parish priest at the Weslyan Church on Handsworth Road (opposite the Turf). I was a member of St Mary's Church and of the Scout troup there.

Remembers (places):
Playing football & cricket at the back of the Working Men's Club. Going to Sunday school in the church hall & playing with the old player-piano. Walking (yes I did say walking) to & from Olivers Mount to St Mary's early Sunday morning. Rex Dunn's Boxing Studio. The Plaza.

Comments:
I could write a novel on my experiences in Handsworth & Darnall, but maybe there would be an opportunity one time when I am 'over'ome' to bring some of the information that I have and leave copies with you. I have also made contact with another of my relatives here in Ontario, a John Barton, who is definitely a distant relative but he & his family grew up in Darnall somewhere near Craven's old works in the Whitby Road area.
